Entertainment from the Butt to Barra

There’s always something interesting going on in the Western Isles.  An event like the Celtic Festival may attract many thousands of visitors while some summer football matches may boast a gate total of 100!

Things to do in the Outer Hebrides

Carnivals, cinemas, book signings, music, theatre, Highland games, sport – although we live in a small community, we don’t lack for events to lighten our lives.

The most impressive permanent venue is the contemporary arts centre, An Lanntair – the Lighthouse – where the 200+ seat theatre plays host to regular cinema showings as well as drama, ballet, music. There’s also an exhibition venue and a shop with a wide range of local art and craft. Check the website for regularly updated events.

Lochmaddy is home to Taigh Chearsabhagh, an arts, exhibition and educational centre that also forms part of the University of the Highlands and Islands.  Most of the events center on exhibitions, but mini trips are also organised to showcase local sculpture and other interests.

Throughout the islands, ceilidhs and other musical events take place – one way to get a flavour of what’s happening is to visit the local events websites at the following links,
