Hebridean Highlights : A Journey Through Scotland’s Wild Islands
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive through the Scottish Highlands, followed by a ferry crossing to Stornoway from Ullapool. Spend two or three nights exploring Lewis and Harris, where the landscape shifts from rugged cliffs to sweeping white sand beaches. In Lewis, visit the world famous Callanish Standing Stones, a mysterious Neolithic site believed to be older than Stonehenge. Discover the history of the islands at the Blackhouse Village in Gearrannan and take in the dramatic coastline at the Butt of Lewis, where towering cliffs are battered by the powerful Atlantic waves, offering breathtaking views and a chance to spot seabirds and marine wildlife.
In Harris, stroll along the golden sands of Luskentyre Beach, one of Scotland’s most breathtaking shorelines. Visit the Harris Distillery to sample their renowned Isle of Harris Gin and the Hearach single malt, and explore independent shops where you can purchase unique handcrafted souvenirs, from jackets to bags and blankets.
Next, cross the Sound of Harris to the Uists, exploring the length of the Uists, where the landscape is dotted with lochs, beaches, and diverse wildlife, from golden eagles to red deer. Follow in the footsteps of Bonnie Prince Charlie, stopping at Eriskay, where he first set foot in Scotland in 1745, and visit Flora MacDonald’s birthplace, a key figure in his dramatic escape.
Continue over the sea to the legendary Isle of Skye, a land of dramatic landscapes, rich history, and breathtaking scenery. Marvel at the towering rock pinnacle of the Old Man of Storr, wonder at the otherworldly terrain of the Quiraing, then immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the Fairy Pools.
