The weather in the Outer Hebrides is very changeable all year round so come prepared for sun, wind, and rain! The average temperature in April – September in the Hebrides range from 10° – 18°.
When is the best time to avoid midges in the Western Isles?
Fortunately, midges are not a major concern in the Outer Hebrides due to the refreshing Atlantic breeze that keeps them at bay, however, it is advisable to have some midge repellent on hand. If you are planning a trip to the Skye late in summer, be aware that midges can be more prevalent.

What is open on a Sunday in the Western Isles?
On Sundays in Isle of Lewis and Harris, most shops remain closed, however, some restaurants are open for limited hours. Additionally, Engebrets Filling station is open from 11am – 4pm. In South Uist and the Isle of Barra, more shops may be open, please see visitouterhebrides for more details. Outdoor sites, such as the Callanish Standing Stones are always open however, the visitor centre will be closed. Please note there is no public transport on a Sunday throughout the Outer Hebrides.
