Expected a warm Hebridean welcome from Maggie at Kilvale B&B.

Kilvale B&B – A modern, homely, bed and breakfast with fantastic views all around.

Kilvale B&B has an excellent location for those who enjoy outdoor activities and natural beauty. Situated along the main road with easy access to bus services, it offers convenient transportation options throughout the Uists. The area is near the newly restored Old Tom Morris Askernish Golf Course, perfect for golf enthusiasts. Additionally, there are miles of white sandy beaches and opportunities for hillwalking and climbing.

Nature enthusiasts will especially enjoy Loch Druidibeg on the west side of South Uist. Here, you can immerse yourself in a variety of plant life and discover an abundance of bird species while enjoying birdwatching. Keep an eye out for redshank, dunlin, lapwing, and greylag geese.

Furthermore, South Uist has historical significance as the birthplace of Jacobite heroine Flora Macdonald, who played a crucial role in helping Bonne Prince Charlie escape to Skye after the battle of Culloden. A cairn stands as a tribute to her memory near the ruins of an 18th-century settlement that included blackhouses and a corn drying kiln.

For those planning to explore further afield, Kilvale is just 3.5 miles away from Calmac Lochboisdale ferry terminal with connections to Skye and only 10 miles away from Eriskay, which provides access to the Eriskay-Barra route.
