The hotel offers a mix of relaxed accommodation in both modern and more traditional styles.  Staying at the Harris Hotel, you’ll enjoy the elegance of times gone by, as well as more modern values. There’s a choice of relaxing spaces, including spacious sun lounges that front onto a large, attractive garden.  The bar is known for the extensive range of malt whiskies.

Harris Tweed shops, the Harris Gin Distillery, ferry terminal and bus stops are all within a short walk of the Harris Hotel; the beaches of the west Harris coast are around fifteen minutes drive and the north Harris hills are about four miles to the north.

One of the hotel’s most celebrated visitors, the novelist J. M. Barrie visited the hotel during the 1920s. His initials, which he himself etched, could be seen in the dining room window until recently when the window was replaced – they’re now on display at reception.

Accommodation at the Harris Hotel

The hotel has twenty-two bedrooms, most of which are quite different, in keeping with the character of the building, but all have undergone extensive refurbishment, some in a modern style and others retaining the more traditional feel of the hotel.  Many of the original bedrooms are spacious and front facing, while some of the more modern accommodation is smaller but with views over the hillside towards the village.

Making holidays extra special in the Hebrides, Select Collection rooms are accommodation that we have chosen for their individuality. Rooms are available in price groups 3 and 4and 5.

Food and Drink

A full Scottish breakfast is included for Hebridean Hopscotch Holidays’ clients. The Harris Hotel has a great reputation for its food.  Excellent menus include a selection of fresh local seafood specialities, served in surroundings that still retain the essential character of the hotel.

“This is an excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent. The dinner menu included fish, meat and chicken dishes while the breakfast was very flexible, including kippers, traditional breakfasts and serials. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Harris and Lewis.” – A TripAdvisor reviewer.
