The family owned New Haven B&B can be found on the Isle of Scalpay, only 5 miles from Tarbert, the ‘capital’ of the Isle of Harris. Scalpay is a separate island, but has an Isle of Harris postal address and is accessed by a modern bridge. The island is a peaceful place with plenty of character and interesting walks.
There’s a good spirit of community and enterprise in Scalpay with more going on than you might expect for such a small settlement. A community shop provides groceries and a tearoom/bistro is on the same site. Being close to Tarbert, this B&B is the perfect stopover for a few days stay to explore both North and South Harris.
A full Scottish breakfast is included and served in the dining room. From the lounge, you can view the small working harbour and the fishing boats arriving after a days fishing. Birdwatchers will especially enjoy identifying the many species that are common in the area. A TV is provided in the lounge (in addition to the guest bedrooms) and an open fire is available in cooler months .
Please note the Google maps at the links on the right of this page are useful bur not exact. After entering the village, New Haven is tucked down a lane on the right, overlooking the harbour (this is signed).
Accommodation
New Haven offers three modern and tastefully decorated and furnished double bedrooms, with en-suite shower or bathroom facilities. Rooms are equipped with tea and coffee making trays and TVs.
Food and Drink
For evening meals, we suggest you visit the nearby North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom behind the community shop, where excellent food is served at good value prices. This is very popular and we advise booking well in advance.
