Two Harbours Guest House

Amenities

    Price Group 4

At Two Harbours Guest House on the Isle of Scalpay, you can enjoy complete peace and relaxation, nestles between the tiny island’s north and south harbours.

Two Harbours Guest House – bed and breakfast on the Isle of Scalpay

Two Harbours Guest House has been sympathetically restored over several years and retains many original period features. Dating back to the 1880s, the present house originally contained a draper’s and a grocer’s shop.  There is a lovely well maintained garden, with an amazing stone wall overlooking the harbour.  The house site itself dates back to the 1600s, when the McLeod Clan Chief installed a steward to oversee his “Deer Forest of North Harris” and later in 1746, the Campbell farmstead played host for 5 days, to Bonnie Prince Charlie as he escaped from the Battle of Culloden.

Scalpay is a tiny island, about 2.5 miles long, connected to Harris by a bridge built around 1998.  This little haven of tranquillity is home to otters, seals and a multitude of birds.  Take short walks around the two harbours or a longer walk out to the lighthouse at the southern end of the island.

Located approximately 7 miles from Tarbert and the Skye ferry, Scalpay is well positioned to discover Harris and Lewis.

    Accommodation

There are three ensuite guest rooms (double and twins), with hospitality trays, homemade baking and TV/DVD players.   The two larger rooms have views to the harbours and one has a view to the front and garden.  The new bathrooms have mains pressure showers.  Check-in is after 4:30pm.

    Food and Drink

Newly arriving guests are greeted with the opportunity to enjoy freshly made tea and coffee and home baked goodies in the dining room.

Breakfast is bountiful, freshly made and locally sourced where possible.  Choose from a full cooked breakfast or a lighter option or one of the occasional daily specials.

For your evening meal or for refreshments during the day, the North Harbour Bistro is about 100yds away – locally sourced seafood and indulgent desserts have earned high recommendations by its first two season’s guests.  Currently (2023) the Bistro is un-licensed and BYOB is welcome – cards are not accepted at the bistro – cash only.  2023 opening hours are Monday – Saturday, 12.00 – 20.45 ( closed Wednesday and Sunday).  Table reservations must be made in advance so we suggest you phone the bistro direct on 01859 540218 prior to commencing your holiday.

“Wonderful Place – Extremely nice, clean, and accommodative B&B. Everything was comfortable and breakfast was fantastic. There is a very nice small restaurant on the water within walking distance they recommended that was very good.” – a TripAdvisor member.
