Sorrel Cottage – an historic ‘Leverhulme’ crofter’s cottage, just minutes away from world-famous shell-sand beaches.

Sorrel Cottage – experience Western Isles hospitality where the eagles soar.

Built during the period when Lord Leverhulme was attempting to bring his brand of prosperity to the Outer Hebrides, Sorrel Cottage has been sympathetically restored and converted, while retaining many of its original features.

At the heart of the cottage is a delightful lounge – with comfy furniture and a real, open fire for cool evenings – perfect to relax and perhaps share your experiences with fellow guests.

There are Golden Eagles on the hills behind Sorrel Cottage so you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse.  Head a few miles along the west coast to see the stunning Isle of Harris beaches and maybe dip your toe in the turquoise sea.

Also home to a Harris Tweed weaver and by appointment, you could arrange to see this famous cloth being woven from the shed at the bottom of the garden.

Accommodation at Sorrel Cottage

There are two guest bedrooms, both situated on the ground floor – 1 kingsize and 1 twin room, accommodation 4 guests. Both have en-suite facilities with walk in showers and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. There is also a guest lounge with TV.

Food and drink

Paula offers a full cooked and continental breakfast with local produce and caters for all dietary requirements. For evening meals, you could dine out at the local hotel Scarista House (bookings essential), 4 miles from away.  You will also find the nearby cafe/bar/restaurant ‘The Bothy’ situated just over half a mile from the cottage.

For guests booked to visit St Kilda, Paula offers an early breakfast. Packed lunch can also be arranged for your trip and must be arranged in advance.

“Lovely place – We stayed three nights with Paula, and thought it was pretty perfect. It suited us that we met the other guests in the communal lounge, and we liked the individual style of decor. The shower was the best! Breakfast was good, and Paula got the balance right between being an attentive host and giving us our privacy. Definitely somewhere to recommend.” – A TripAdvisor reviewer.
